the pleasure of waffles on a sunday  morning, it is a simple thing, a little batter, fruit, butter, syrup - and as long as we don’t make it too sweet, it is pleasing. Funnily; Oscar does not really have a sweet tooth, but seems to be developing one slowly. Not a big fan of cake and such, Oscar is starting to see that others value it and therefore does he.

Oscar takes himself on the slide these days. He needs little help or encouragement from papa or anyone else, as long as we are in visual proximity and there to catch him in the event of a fall. Only 20 months and i can see past the toddler to the little boy and a bit beyond. Adventurous but cautious, thoughtful and considered. Strange -  did not get  those qualities from me.
Taken at the big kid slide in codornices [not the really big kid one]  -  he is eyeing the bigger kids on the concrete slide and thinking ‘me too’ …. soon

Since it is impossible to get a good photo of a toddler splashing in a wave tank, while being restrained by the photographer [papa], in a dim room filled with kids running about; I will have to settle for two blurry ones. A few weeks ago we went to  the Bay Area Discovery Museum  for a few hours which could have been extended to an entire day. We explored only a portion of it but it could easily fill a foggy summer afternoon in SF. A bit spendy for the adult, but a pile of fun for Oscar.

Finally got a bike trailer, both for little boy blu as well as for gear/groceries. Although we were initially holding out for a Chariot [definitely the superior product], we were committed to purchasing a trailer used; both due to cost [bike trailer’s are really expensive] and the deep lack of need for new items in our life.  It turned out to be a tough bill to fill. The majority of used trailers [via craigslist] are still relatively expensive and tend to be pretty beat up after multiple years of use. After an extended search, we managed to find a 5yr old Burley which met the minimum requirements and only needed a few correction’s / alteration’s.  Oscar however remains suspicious of the endeavor and is waiting to pass judgement.
As a follow it should be noted that after some consideration we rejected many of the other options on the market as either being of poor quality, less safe, and/or poor handling on a bike. The only serious options for us were the Burley and the Chariot. The Burley is a surprisingly versatile product, reasonably well made and there are a lot of them around. A bit surprised however that there is not a wider aftermarket for mod’s and replacement parts.

happy kid -  walking in the sun and looking at flowers, the simple pleasures seem to  trump others.  On a side note -  the hat, coat and pants are all from Child’s Play in rockridge; my new favorite place to shop for kids. Child’s Play has new toy’s [a nice selection] and secondhand kids clothes, with a great selection and dynamite value. We totally support the re-use of childs clothes whenever possible, and child’s play has quality stuff.

Sadly, Oscar is away over the 4th of July w/ his mother in Lake Tahoe, but she was kind enough to provide a photo of him having the best time ever.
